The Legacy

She could not give her children gold,
So she gave them faith to have and hold.

She could not give them royal birth...
A name renowned throughout the earth.
But she gave them seeds and garden spot
And shade trees when the sun was hot.

She could not give a silver spoon
Or servants waiting night and noon.
She gave them love and a listening ear
And told them God was always near.

She could not give them ocean trips
Aboard majestic sailing ships.
But she gave them books and quiet time,
Adventures found in prose and rhyme.

She could not give them worldly things
But what she gave was fit for kings.
For with her faith and books and sod,
She made each child aware of God.

Perfect Demise

after i am gone
to the great beyond
may books be made
in the hearts of men

they will be gathered
men whom I’ve fathered
to pay their last homage
to a man highly revered

let there be tears
not for the demise of a youth
who lived a few years
but for memories that'll live long

let there be grieving
even by my foes
for demise of an adversary
who extracted their doggedness

at my funeral
assemble all that prosper
succeeding a legendary legacy
of a man who touched million lives

may my corpse be empty
devoid of the least potential
exhausted during a lifetime
invested to fulfill destinies

Waste 2 wealth

this morning will remain memorable to me, at least for a while. I had the opportunity to interact with 'orphans'. these children(all boys), all have almost the same story, they were rejected by their family for being wizards and menaces to the society, as a result, their families abandoned them to the streets. In a bid to survive some of these kids took to drugs and pilferage. The streets of course are good breeding grounds to groom these ones into hardened criminals. A woman with a large heart had the burden to take these ones into a home and refurbish them into meaningful citizens. These boys under just a short period of informal tutelage have had tremendous transformation. Michael, one of them has the ambition of becoming a CBN governor, Dominic, an accountant, blah blah blah! what facsinates me is not the ambitions of these children, but the brilliance they exhibit with very limited learning opportunities! while listening to these boys reciting a poem taught them by yours truly, 1 thought flashed through my mind, 'you better give them your best, any of these could teach your children', friends, you can imagine the kind of passion and vigour I with which I taught them songs and poems. On leaving the premises, I consciously looked out for any child that could be in need of help, What we do to these children 2day determines how well our future will be.
